A sacred place dedicated to Blessed Michael McGivney, founder of the Knights of Columbus, at Sorrowful Mother Shrine in Bellevue, Ohio.
Honoring Our Founder
Blessed Michael McGivney founded the Knights of Columbus in 1882 to support Catholic families, strengthen parish communities, and provide charity to those in need. More than 140 years later, his vision continues to inspire millions of Knights around the world.
The Ohio Knights of Columbus are proud to partner with Sorrowful Mother Shrine to construct a dedicated chapel honoring Blessed Michael McGivney and his enduring legacy of faith, charity, unity, and fraternity.
This chapel will serve as a place of prayer, reflection, and celebration of the Holy Mass for pilgrims visiting one of Ohio’s most beloved Catholic shrines.
Proposed Location
The chapel will be constructed directly behind the Pieta Chapel on the grounds of Sorrowful Mother Shrine in Bellevue, Ohio.

The Chapel Design
A beautiful place to celebrate Mass. Designed for prayer and pilgrimage, the chapel combines beauty, simplicity, and devotion.
Measuring 12′ at the back, 18′ at the front, and 10′ deep.
Features include:
- Brick construction
- Steel roof
- Cedar ceiling
- Custom stained glass windows
- Knights of Columbus emblem embedded in the floor
- Near life-sized statue of Blessed Michael McGivney
A Sacred Connection to Blessed Michael McGivney
The chapel will contain a third-class relic from Blessed Michael McGivney’s original tomb.
This relic will be permanently incorporated into the rear wall beneath the chapel cruicifix, providing pilgrims and visitors with a tangible connection to the founder of the Knights of Columbus.
This sacred space will provide a peaceful environment for prayer and worship while honoring the founder of our Order.
